What is the true value in a videographer?

You are combing through your wedding budget trying to prioritize things that are important to you and figure out where you can cut costs. Is a wedding videographer essential to your wedding? Is this something you really need?

Will you ever watch the video?

Some people will have the firm belief that a videographer is simply an extra cost. They will say that they never watched their own wedding video (on VHS tape). Sure this may be true, but technology has changed a lot in the last several decades. We now carry around handheld devices every single day all day long that take pictures and allow us to watch videos.

You can think about this from the flip side: how many videos have you seen of a baby’s first smile, first laugh, or first step. Everyone has those videos on their phones. You take videos at concerts. Your wedding should be no different as this is an important day in your life. You will find yourself pulling your phone out and looking at your wedding video the same way you look at other memories caught on video.

Videos capture emotions better than pictures

You have already booked your photographer. You knew from the day you started planning your wedding that a photographer was going to be part of your wedding budget. But why would you hesitate to book a videographer? Do still photos or videos capture emotions better? You can hear the joy in someone’s voice in a video. You can see someone actively wipe away tears. Still photos are beautiful and can go on your wall, but videos better help you fully remember a moment.

Weddings seem to fly by

Any couple will tell you that their wedding and reception flew by. They don’t fully remember the day. They are disappointed they didn’t get every interaction they desired with their guests. When you have a video, you can look back on different parts of your wedding event. You can see the fun moments you might have missed or simply forgot. You can see the sweet smile your grandfather had on his face as you caught the first glimpse of your spouse. You can laugh at how your spouse tried to smash your cake and you got away cleanly. Yes, photographs can capture these moments but it’s a more complete picture as a video.

A videographer will help you to relive the day

With a video you are more able to relive the day. Remember the feeling of walking down the isle on your father’s arm. Remember the feeling of twirling your new bride during your first dance. Remember having your first meal together as husband and wife and the joy of having everyone you love around you to celebrate this union.

Many people who don’t have a videographer for their wedding will tell you they regret it. Think about how you look back at important moments in your life. Do you look at still photos or do you love looking back at videos? Will you enjoy having the sound bits of the day captured? If you enjoy reliving joyful moments in this way, then you know the right answer for you and your future spouse.
